By definition drawing room is a room in any house where we receive and entertain our guests. However, with changing time this definition is just for dictionary. In reality drawing room has become the main activity centre of the house where family loves to hang around. After all we don’t have guests visiting our home every day. Undoubtedly this room should be decorated differently to welcome the visitors. However, this room should also have friendly and personal vibe to welcome the family warmly, encouraging them to spend some quality time together at the end of the day.
Planning a light scheme for the living room is a crucial part of designing the living room. A living room should typically have three types of lighting; an ambient light scheme, focus lights for wall art and curios and task lights in the form of table lamps. While the light itself enhances the room, sometimes the source of this light need not be seen. Cove lighting is a style of ambient lighting that has become very popular. This style of lighting is muted but gives the living room a stylish edge. When it comes to picking a table lamp, there are a number of styles to choose amongst. While a lamp base is ornamental, the lamp shade has a more functional purpose and its style determines the amount and direction of light emitted.
Nature is an excellent solution for refreshing any space. Introducing shades of green into the living room can cheer up the mood in a dull hall with a monotone palette. Combine it with wood on the floor and place a potted plant in the room to put together a refreshed space.
For those who like to alter the mood in the living room from one season to another, changing the colour of the upholstery and adding accents and accessories make it easy to achieve. Turquoise blue is a favourite for the summer. Add a contrast floral print on a winged back chair and multi-coloured cushions to complete the summery look. Don’t forget to fill the vases with fresh flowers!
