As well as rating shower brands based on customer feedback we also test individual electric showers in our lab. During this assessment we look at how powerful each model is, whether the water temperature it produces drops or increases when someone else uses the water supply elsewhere in the house, and how long it takes to get back to normal if that happens.
Now you can think about the different types of furniture and storage options available to you. You can get built-in cabinets – for example, bathroom vanities that sit around the basin, which will make use of wasted space – or freestanding ones that give you flexibility to move it around.
When doing a home renovation, snags are often inevitable. But you can help to avoid tricky issues if you know what the most common ones are. We asked the same 3,982 Which? members whether they came up against any problems when they updated their bathroom and, if they did, what they were. 51% experienced an issue of some kind, and of those, the most common problem areas were: toilet 28%, shower cubicle 25%, taps 19%, sink 12%, bath 9%, flooring 7%, tiles 5%, vanity unit around sink 5%, wall cabinets/units 4%, built-in cabinets/units 2%, combined vanity unity around sink and toilet 1%, freestanding cabinets/units 1%, vanity unit around toilet 1%.
Vanity units, which are essentially bathroom cabinets that sit around the base of a sink, are one of the most common types of built-in furniture. You can have one that covers the sink pedestal or, to make even more use of the space, consider having a 'floating' basin that sits on top of a unit or is embedded into it.
